Public Archaeology

Time Capsules and Digging the Past: The purpose of public archaeology is more than just digging. It unearths the past, helps us learn about the cultural and spiritual norms as well as foodways of past societies while educating and engaging the public. Through site surveys, primary documents, cultural resources, and active participation shared through public excavations, via the internet, television, museum exhibits and scholarship, it encourages the preservation and the knowledge gained through artifacts. Through student archaeology projects we find where the past informs the present...and...the present informs the future.
